Golfing at Piperdam
Following the announcement from the First Minister on Monday 4th January 2021 continue to make some adjustments to our business operations, and update you with the information we have available to us at present.
As has been the case throughout the pandemic, Scottish Golf have worked alongside both sportscotland and The Scottish Government to demonstrate that golf is a sport that can be played outdoors with physical distancing and increased safety measures in place. We are pleased that this continues to be recognised and from 00.01 on Tuesday 5th January:
- Golf courses can remain open for play with a maximum of two players from up to two households
- Golfers must stay close to home, travel only for essential purposes and in line with the new legislation
Scottish Golf asks that all golfers adhere to the new guidance with the same spirit and integrity that has been shown throughout the last year to ensure we can all continue to benefit from playing golf through this new period of restrictions.
Piperdam will follow the legislation as stated above. The tee sheets have been amended to only allow 2 golfers to book into each tee time. Due to the volume of golf playing at the weekend, please only book 1 tee time – either Saturday or Sunday to allow all golfers to play.
If there are spare weekend tee times the day before, you are welcome to take them as a second tee time for the weekend, for example if you already have a tee time booked for Saturday, please do not book a tee time on the Sunday until the Saturday to allow all golfers the opportunity to play. I understand this may be frustrating but this is the legislation and hopefully this will be a short term measure. Weekday tee times will not be restricted and we encourage members to utilise these as much as possible to help free up weekend tee times.
If you have a tee time already booked for more than 2 golfers in the next 7 days, please amend to only 2 golfers.
We will constantly update and review as the legislation changes.
Here at Piperdam we are very excited about the golfing season in 2021. Proud of our “18 Hole Course” that was redesigned in the Winter of 2013, we removed the two hilly holes on the front nine and replaced them with some exciting and picturesque new holes later in the round.
In addition to the new holes we gave a facelift to at least half a dozen others and reshaped many bunkers and water hazards. Boasting a much improved layout with five par 3’s and four par 5’s, the course manages to be both less demanding, physically and mentally, for our mid to high handicappers, and trickier with more thought provoking risk and reward style holes for the lower handicapped players.
Piperdam also still benefits from a second course on site. A superb nine hole par three golf courses that has played host to Scotland’s National Par 3 Championship. A great variety of holes and large USGA spec greens make this unlike any short course you’ll have ever played.
Other facilities at Piperdam also include our recently added Professional shop and locker rooms, short game area, putting green and a magnificent bar and lounge area provides golfers with everything they require. For any non golfers in your group there are also great leisure facilities that consists of a full gym and 20 meter indoor heated pool. An exciting addition to our resort in March 2017 saw our new kids soft play area open up at Little Pipers in our Activity Barn.
Piperdam now enjoys first class facilities throughout. So whether you are an individual visitor or looking to come with your family or even a large party we will be happy to meet your needs.
Note: Being a member of Piperdam Golf entitles you to a 10% discount on in-house services, such as The Activity Barn and restaurant

“The course is known for having excellent putting surfaces and a number of unique and picturesque holes that guarantee a truly enjoyable and memorable experience.”
The New Course
First built in 1997 and the extensively and lovingly redesigned over the winter of 2013/14 the course is a truly unique parkland layout. A par 71 measuring anywhere from 6300 to 5100 yards depending on your choice of tees the New Course can provide either a stern or more sympathetic test for golfers of all levels of ability.
“Set in the most beautiful of locations, and boasting some breath-taking views, the course has been sculpted from the gentle slopes around our 40 acre fishing loch.”
The New Course at Piperdam is a wonderful and unique test of Scottish parkland golf with a par of 71 and can play anything from a challenging 6305 yards off the back tees to a more sympathetic length off our other tees. Club medals and other competitions are typically played from the white tees and the blues provide a most enjoyable and fun game for a relaxed days golf. This is not set in stone though like at many clubs and visitors are always welcome to play from which ever tees they might prefer.
The key to good scoring here is to play the five par 3’s well – they provide a tricky test with water in play on a couple of occasions. None of them have any great length here but you need to be careful with your club selection and play for the heart of the greens, par is a good score on any of them. The par 5’s are an excellent opportunity to birdie if you play them with just the right balance of agression and caution. They can be a great place to pick up a few shots but all have the potential to punish the over confident golfer. The par fours provide good variety and mixture of yardages from the longer holes, 6th & 7th, to the shorter holes such as the drivable 16th.
All in all if you focus on keeping your ball in the fairway off the tee rather than on maximum distance then you’ll put yourself in a great position to score well. We all know that scoring comes down to holing putts and our greens have an enviable reputation for quality and pace so aim for the high side of the hole as the can break a little more than you think.
